Precast flooring systems are versatile and adaptable for use in a wide variety of structures including low-rise residential and commercial developments, high-rise framed structures, bridge decks culverts and other civil applications.
Some typical precast flooring systems include:
Hollowcore floor slabs
'Transfloor'precast permanent formwork system
'Resdek' precast beam and infill system
'Ultrafloor' precast beam and infill system
The recognised advantages of precast flooring systems are:
Speed of construction
Less on-site labour
Earlier access by following trades
Less dependence on weather conditions
Fewer industrial relations issues
Lloyd's Register of Shipping, London , UK
The headquarters of the Lloyd's Register of Shipping involved the redevelopment of a large site in the historic Fenchurch Street area of London. It represents an innovative use of precast concrete, in particular, the flooring system.
The structure is an exposed precast concrete frame with insitu concrete infill (commonly referred to as a "hybrid-structure"). As columns, slab-soffits and beam downstands were to be exposed, the concrete was required to have an exceptionally high quality finish.
